With all due respect, this sort of attitude of “colleges want this and that” is what ruined my confidence in myself. Additionally, it’s not true. Doing Honors Algebra II as a freshman (started that whole dumb year ahead track in 7th grade was the end of consistently solid math grades/confidence) wasn’t worth it at all for me. Even though I’m going to most likely major in bio so I can get a solid foundation for a pre-med route, that doesn’t require AP Physics plus another AP science as a junior and then two more as a senior. I’m not trying to get into MIT or Stanford.
College wise, I’m confident that I’ll be just fine without a laundry list of math and science AP classes. I will most definitely be happier, and probably have a better GPA. I consistently challenge myself, but it’s time to realize that I don’t need to run myself into the ground. There are so many incredibly intelligent and successful people that never took an Honors course in their life; despite popular belief, AP classes aren’t mere tickets to success and happiness.
